PrintDo you know how many squirrels it takes to light a birthday cake with 35 candles? Come to the Buckeye Recreation Center on Sunday, May 1, and you might find out.

My squirrel buddies and I will be on hand to help celebrate Beech Mountain’s 35th birthday. Yeppers, our favorite town was born the first day of May back in 1981, and by officially incorporating that day, Beech Mountain became the highest town east of the Rockies.

We would love you to join all the fabulous human residents of Beech Mountain for this special occasion lunch party, which takes place from 1-3 p.m.

Bring your favorite covered dish to share, along with a beverage of choice. I’m not much of a culinary artist, but I’ll throw together trail mix with fruit and nuts. Make sure you RSVP to 828-387-3003 and let folks know what dish you’re bringing. We don’t want to end up with 10 green pea casseroles!

The party also celebrates Arbor Day, a favorite holiday for the squirrel population. Did you know Beech Mountain is an official Tree City USA community? That means people here really care about their trees. At the party, the town will receive its official Tree City USA award.

The town of Beech Mountain is so generous that instead of receiving birthday presents, it’s giving them. That’s right! Each person who comes to the party receives a tree seedling to plant. What a cool party favor.

I hope to see you at the party and out-and-about this spring!

Yours truly,
Boomer the Squirrel
