Birding
Buckeye Recreation Area
features one of North Carolina’s Mountain Birding Sites.
Almost 127 birds can be found throughout the year on Beech Mountain. Due to the abundance of species, The High country Audubon Society has recognized Buckeye Recreation Area as one of two “Hot Spots” in the area.
Because of the large amount of trails, many of Beech Mountain’s natural bird habitats are easily accessible. Some trails, such as the Pond Creek Trail, even have interpretative guide stations at which you can stop and learn about the animals and flora/fauna of Beech Mountain.
Stop in at the Visitor Center for birding checklists. Or find them online here : NC Birding
